Oh, Canada!

Rarely in the history of the world have two neighboring countries been so close to each other. Oh, sure, our peoples disagree on many things, but like quarrelling brothers, when there is trouble around Canada and the U.S. stand shoulder to shoulder and as one they help each other in time of need. In 1944 WWII was almost over, but fighting was still tough and both the U.S. and Canada were spending money they didn't have to support their troops. Canada had 9 total Victory Loans that were financed by selling savings bonds to the general public. This Hollywood movie short was produced in 1944 to be shown in Canadian theaters before the main attraction to inspire Canadian citizens to purchase the bonds and help the war effort. In this star-studded film the narrator takes the audience from 1944 into the future world of 1960, where kids beg their parents for new rocket ships, and grumble over eating so much steak at dinner. To remind the young boy in 1960 about the struggles of 1944 the family sits around the 'Reverse-O-Scope' where they watch events from 1944 unfolding, and they happen to see a bevy of Hollywood stars singing and talking about the importance of purchasing Canadian war bonds. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with warm melted butter on it and enjoy the show.
