The Ghost of Lady Anne

Edwin Thanhouser was different . . . In the first years of 1900 when Thomas Edison and others were making pictures that moved, they looked around for things that moved, and set a camera up to record the motion. Edwin Thanhouser was a Broadway producer who saw the first motion pictures and wondered why no one was putting some of the great stories of Broadway on this new motion picture invention. For nine short years between 1909 and 1918 he made more than a thousand silent motion pictures that were more than moving pictures . . . Edwin Thanhouser put great stories from great authors on film. In this story from 1912 near the very beginning of the motion picture industry he first takes us back to the year 1770 when the father of Lady Anne was proudly hanging her painted portrait in the family home. Lady Anne gets engaged to a young revolutionary soldier that same night, but later she has an extreme fit of jealousy when her beau speaks with another woman and angrily hurls her engagement ring at her beau and sends him away forever. Later she weds another, but soon discovers that her heart is still with the man she sent away, and eventually dies of a broken heart. Fast forward to present day 1912 and a young descendent of Lady Anne is about to be engaged at a gay party in the same home, under the eyes of Lady Anne's portrait. Once again this young descendent of Lady Anne gets jealous when her intended pays attention to another girl at the party, and storms out of the room and up to her bedroom. The portrait of Lady Anne looks on with horror and suddenly the painted lady becomes alive, and she steps out of the portrait and onto the floor in search of the scorned suitor. Pop a little bowl of white kernel popcorn with warm melted butter drizzled over it and discover what the ghost of Lady Anne does to prevent her descendant from making the same mistake that she made in 1770.
