Joseph Frank 'Buster' Keaton was born in 1895 in Kansas, and passed in 1966. His parents were Vaudeville performers who shared the stage with legendary magician and escape artist Harry Houdini. Houdini and his wife were the godparents of little Joseph, and when they watched him tumble down the stairs as a toddler Houdini remarked 'that was a real buster' and little Joseph became the first person to have 'Buster' as a first name, long before Buster Crabbe or any other performers. His famous 'stone face' that never cracked a smile nevertheless brought many a man and woman in the audience to tears with uncontrolled laughter. In this comedy short Buster loves Virginia, the Mayor's daughter, but she will not have him unless he can become a successful businessman. Buster then sets out to make his fortune in the world, and stumbles quickly through a series of misunderstandings that put him at odds with the local cops, but like the lucky person that he was in real life, he manages to keep out of the grasp of the police, even though he never does get the fair hand of the girl he wants. Pop a little bowl of white kernel popcorn with a bit of warm melted butter on it and laugh with the man who has kept us laughing for about a hundred years now.
