Escape from Pirate Island
La Settimana Enigmistica is a very popular puzzle company in Italy that began by creating crossword puzzle books. On the cover of the very first crossword puzzle book in 1932 was a photo of Mexican actress Lupe Velez, the star of this Island adventure.
Three years after filming this adventure, sexy Mexican actress Lupe Velez married Johnny Weissmuller. One day Lupe brought home a parrot that could talk. Unfortunately, the parrot kept calling Johnny Weissmuller ‘Gary.’ Weissmuller discovered that the parrot was a gift to Lupe from her lover Gary Cooper, who Lupe was seeing regularly during her marriage to Johnny Weissmuller.
Johnny Weissmuller could not stop her from seeing other men, and finally divorced her after five years of marriage, in 1939. Lupe never married again, but five years later she committed suicide, while pregnant with the child of another actor. Her view of her life with men is summed up in a quote attributed to Lupe, “The first time you buy a house you think how pretty it is and sign the check. The second time you look to see if the basement has termites. It is the same with men.”
In this Island adventure, Lupe Velez is Anita Morgan, granddaughter of the cutthroat pirate Henry Morgan. Her passion is to get off of the small Caribbean island and go to Havana, where she can find a beautiful man to marry, and wash every day with soap that smells pretty. Unfortunately, her father will sell her to the wealthy island merchant, so Anita must become a bit like her grandfather if she wants to get off of the small island with her beautiful man. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
