Girlie Show at the Opera House

The moral of this cowboy comedy is that it is really difficult to make a living as a singing show girl under the big Montana sky. As our story opens bad guy Blake, played by Charles King spots his enemy, good guy Clay, played by Kenneth Harlan, and they shoot it out until Clay's buddies come along and scare away the bad guys. It turns out that the good guys are headed to town to see a Manhattan Follies show filled with lots of pretty dancing girls . . . But when the guys get to town they discover that old man Jenkins has the girls locked up in jail because they couldn't pay their hotel bill. Abner Jenkins and his wife, hatchet-face Martha Jenkins, not only own the hotel but also the opera house that the girlie show is scheduled to play in. Clay and his side-kick Sunshine, played by funny man Slim Summerville, must come up with the money to pay the girls' hotel bill to get them out of jail, and then they need to find the money to pay for the opera house. Well, . . . Clay gets Blondie out of jail for a bit and they convince Abner to let all the girls out of jail when Blondie threatens to make a scene alleging that Abner accosted her . . . But when Abner's wife, hatchet-face Martha discovers that a girlie show is scheduled for the opera house she puts her foot down and forbids the girls to perform in the opera house at any price . . . Until good guy Clay, who has fallen in love with one of the dancing girls, pretends to woo hatchet-face Martha and keep her occupied so that the show can go on . . . And of course the girl in the show that he is sweet on sees him courting hatchet-face Martha and gets all riled up. Meanwhile, bad guy Blake has decided to rob the opera house box office if the show does go on, so these poor, underpaid and under clothed dancing girls won't get paid for their show even if it does go on. Sometimes it seems that the young ladies of the Old West had an even rougher time than the hard-shooting and tough-fighting men . . . But rest assured that all will turn out well for everyone except maybe bad guy Blake . . . And hatchet-face Martha. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
