Dynamite on the Hoof

Hopalong Cassidy and Johnny are headed to a ranch where they were hired to help drive some cattle to market and when they come across a raging river Johnny decides to take a dip to wash the trail dust away. They hear a gunshot in the distance and then cries for help from someone floating down the river. Johnny dives in and saves the man who has been shot in the arm. Windy, played by Gabby Hayes, was shot and tossed into the river while outlaws try to steal the bull he was bringing back to the ranch he works at. Hopalong manages to scare away the outlaws and wrangle the bull so Johnny can tie it to the wagon again. It turns out that Windy works for a young tenderfoot and his beautiful sister, and the fellow who hired Hopalong and Johnny is the bad guy whose men were trying to steal the bull. As Hopalong gets the picture of who is good and who is bad, he decides not to go to work for the bad guy who hired him, but instead stay and help the young tenderfoot rancher. This leads to that and Hopalong discovers that the bad guy is helping cattle rustlers from the north herd their stolen cattle through the narrow valley that the young tenderfoot owns, and so he helps the tenderfoot put up a fence with barbed wire to keep the stolen cattle from going through the valley. Unfortunately the rustlers from the north have a huge herd of stolen cattle to bring to market and they need to get through that valley before the fence is erected. They must move quickly, so they stampede the heard into the valley, knowing that the cattle will trample and kill anything and anyone in their path, including Hopalong Cassidy, Johnny and the men putting up the fence. As the thundering herd heads towards Hopalong and the boys, Johnny suddenly realizes that the noise they hear is a deadly stampede of cattle, and he exclaims that it is dynamite on the hoof. They realize that they do not have enough time to get out of the valley before the stampede overruns them, and it may be the end for Hopalong Cassidy and the boys. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
