James Newill was born in August of 1911 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but went to college at the University of Southern California and spent most of his life there. With a great singing voice, he was part of the Los Angeles Light Opera Company, but of course, living near Hollywood broght his great voice and rugged good looks to the attention of the dream makers and he acted in 27 motion pictures, including this one, his second, after playing a radio singer in a movie filmed a few months before this one. After this picture he played the part of Sergeant Renfrew of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police seven more times, and then played the part of Texas Ranger Jim Steele in 14 movies from 1942 till 1944. Mr. Newill passed in 1975, just days short of his 64th birthday.

In this outdoor adventure beautiful young Virginia Bronson is heading to the northern part of Canada to meet her father, who was just released from a U.S. prison for counterfeiting. They plan to start a new life in the wilderness of Canada. But alas, some evil criminals will force her father to engrave new counterfeit plates so that they can smuggle bad money into the U.S. inside blocks of ice containing rainbow trout. But Renfrew is on the job, capturing not only the bad guys, but also the heart of Virginia, as he sings his way through the beautiful mountain wilderness. Grab your bowl of freshly popped white kernel popcorn that is covered with warm melted butter and settle in for a wonderful hour of adventure and music in the great outdoors.
