Short Horn Justice

Hopalong Cassidy has a reputation as a square shooter and champion of the persecuted, but in this adventure he may have met his match. In many places throughout history and even today, ‘justice’ is defined by the law . . . And wealthy men can often convince the law that they are right, and anyone who gets in their way is wrong. As our adventure opens Hopalong and the wranglers of the Bar 20 have just finished another roundup and they have two weeks to kick up their heels and sip a bit of good Western whiskey. Hopalong won’t be joining the boys because he has received a note from an old flame asking for his help. His old girlfriend Nora now owns half of a ranch in the Alamogordo area of New Mexico, and ranch neighbor Clay Allison is busting down her fences and rustling her cattle . . . . But Clay Allison is the big man of the area, and when he lies to the Sheriff and the Judge, they believe him and punish anyone who gets in his way. . . . Like ranch-lady Nora . . . . But Hopalong, Lucky and Pappy have no idea what is ahead of them as they ride into New Mexico. When they get to the area where the two ranches are, a young woman with a rifle shoots at them, and when they get close enough to confront the girl, she robs them of all of their money and rides off. No sooner than the girl robber is gone than a cowpoke rides up and orders them off the land or he will kill them. Of course Hopalong can pull out one of his guns and aim it at the stranger before the stranger can finish his sentence, so the stranger rides off. But as Hopalong and the boys make camp and cook dinner, the stranger returns with big man rancher Clay Allison and the Sheriff, and soon Hopalong, Lucky and Pappy are in jail . . . Their guns taken from them, and not a penny to even pay bail. This adventure isn’t going to be an easy one for Hopalong, and in fact he may not be able to win in a town where the law is decided not by any sense of justice, but by the desires of rancher Clay Allison. . . . . Short Horn Justice . . . . With nothing between Hopalong and the judge but his guns and his wit. . . . . And the Sheriff has his guns! Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
