Who Let The Secret Out?
Well, I guess I don't need to tell you anything about this story . . . The title says it all. My only question is about when it was that women discovered the secret that we fellows never seem to learn. I imagine that shortly after Eve ate the apple and confronted Adam, all was lost, and all women discovered the secret that dooms all men . . . Of course there are a few exceptions that prove the rule, but the word is out . . . In this story the fool we are interested in is Leo Carrillo, playing the part of Tony Mello, a wanna-be composer living in Vienna who falls for a gold-digging girl reaching for the stars. After getting her a job as a singer in a nightclub he discovers that she enjoys going home with the customers and has no more use for him until . . . One night they both get fired from their jobs and gold-digging Lilli sends her scorn his way for getting them fired until . . . Tony mentions that he is going to America to start a new life and Lilli's eyes light up like Christmas! Lilli quickly suggests that Tony marry her so that she can go to America with him . . . So the fool marries her and takes her to America with him. Well, this is a Pre-Code adventure without censors watching over, so once in America Lilli starts a torrid love affair with the gangster owner of a speakeasy and poor husband Tony goes to prison for beating him up when he catches them together. When he gets out of prison our adventure really begins as death and murder visit the story. Ladies, pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and pull your fool close to you and enjoy the show.
