The Navy's All Right, But You Can't Kiss a Battleship

Samuel Jones Grundy was born in Lancashire, England in 1898 to a very poor family. At the age of three he was given to an orphanage because his family could not afford to keep him. At the age of seven, he was sent with a group of orphan boys to Canada, where British pioneer farmers needed strong young boys to work their farms in exchange for room and board.

Samuel ran away several times, but was always returned to a farm family to work in the fields. Finally, when Samuel was eleven years old he left town with a traveling Vaudeville show where he learned a bit about show business, never returning to the life of farm labor.

When he was sixteen years old Samuel and his friend Wallace Ford left Canada to seek their fortune in the United States. During the train trip south, Wallace Ford fell under the wheels of the train and was killed. In honor of his dead buddy, Samuel changed his stage name to Wallace Ford.

In this Navy adventure, Wallace Ford is a happy-go-lucky, wise-cracking Navy man who has a big oaf of a friend who is a happy, good natured fellow with a bit more brawn than brain. As our adventure opens, their ship is returning to port and Husky Stone is going to leave the navy to marry his sweetheart Myrtle, and Wallace Ford, as Navy man Pete Kelly is determined to break up the love affair between Husky and Myrtle. How will he break it up? By flirting with Myrtle so that she falls in love with him instead of Husky. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
