Send Me To Prison! . . .

What would you for your mother? Would you protect her from harm? Would you do everything you could to protect her? . . . . Would you go to prison in her place . . . . Would you go to prison for the rest of your life? As our drama opens young Bob Clay, played by early film star Edward J. Nugent is in his home telling of the last great court case of his father, District Attorney John Manson Clay, favored to become the next Governor of the state. Listening to his praise are his father John, John's best friend Jack, who owns a steel company and is quite the man about town, and his mother Esther, sitting at the piano watching it all. Our adventure centers on son Bob and mother Esther, who is having an affair with her husband's best friend Jack. Later that evening the D.A.'s best friend Jack goes home and the District Attorney goes to the office for some last minute work . . . and the D.A.'s loving wife goes over to the apartment of her husband's best friend Jack . . . It seems that she and Jack have been having a torrid love affair, but now Jack is seeing a beautiful Broadway star Tilly. This leads to that and son Bob visits Jack to give him a message from his father . . . . And Bob discovers that his mother has just shot and killed her lover because he had just tried to break off their affair . . . . What is a good son to do? . . . . Son Bob sends his mother out the back way and starts to wipe her fingerprints from everything in the apartment and trying to arrange the scene to look like a random killing during a home robbery. Unfortunately he is interrupted by the dead man's butler, who discovers the son in the apartment with the dead man, and soon the son of the District Attorney goes on trial for murder because he will not tell anyone that his mother was having an affair with the dead man or that it was his mother that killed him. His father, the District Attorney, has the sad duty of sending his only son to prison for life . . . . Not knowing that his son is only protecting the honor of his cheating wife . . . . Off to prison son Bob goes, while his cheating mother lives happily ever after . . . . But wait . . . . There is one more fact that you need to know about this Pre-Code crime drama . . . The lady that Bob has gone to prison to protect . . . . His dear mother . . . . Is in fact NOT his mother at all . . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
