Upper Crust Love and Hijinks

Sir Gerald Courtney is a proper upper crust British father with a young vibrant son who loves to drink and party with Berthine instead of becoming the talented architect that papa wants him to be. One lonely night when son Russell runs off with his party girl instead of spending dinner with father, papa Courtney is sad indeed. Along comes good fortune when a poor but beautiful urchin from the street intrudes into Sir Courtney's life and papa Courtney, with his soft and empathetic heart has her stay for dinner and chat. When he discovers that she is penniless and ready to either jump off a bridge or become a lady of the night . . . a plot hatches in Sir Courtney's mind. He promises to give June a thousand pounds if she will agree to lure his son away from the gold-digging girl that has her clutches on him. All works according to plan as Sir Courtney buys June a closet full of fancy clothes and sets her up in a flat near his son's flat in town. And gorgeous June not only gets son Russell away from the gold-digger but also reforms him and gets him to stop drinking and pay more attention to his career. All is well and everyone is happy, but there is one little fly in the honey . . . June falls in love with Sir Courtney instead of the son she was hired to beguile. Now here is the picture: Son Russell is in love with June, June is in love with father Sir Courtney, and Sir Courtney loves June, but if he loses the friendship of his son he will not be with June. So June may once again be out on the streets facing either a life of sin or the bridge. And when Russell runs back to the old gold-digger, her boyfriend wants to wait for son Russell and kill him. It doesn't look good for anyone in this drama, and with no 'Hays Office' in 1931 Britain there is no rule that everything must work out well and they all live happily ever after. When a pretty girl comes between a father and he beloved son, all bets are off. Murder and prison lie ahead in this twisted tale of love with the upper crust. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with warm melted butter on it and enjoy the show.
