The Cowboy and the Heiress
Sure, there are crooks and con-men in this cowboy show, but the main story is about a rich girl from Britain who is on an around the world trip with her old aunt Henrietta. Travelling with them is Hadley Thornton, played by Stephen Chase, an American who wants to marry into money.
Now, of course, with a name like 'Hadley' - we spot him as the bad guy pretty quickly. When this trio hits a western dude ranch in America young British heiress Pamela Barclay, played by Evalyn Bostock, meets ranch hand Bob Walker, played by veteran classic movie leading man George O'Brien.
The sparks between them fly at first meeting, and they decide to hate each other until they both fall in love with each other. In a good love story the path of love cannot be free from crisis and disaster, and this one is no different.
Cowboy Bob Walker and his buddy Persimmon Bates are working on their last day for the dude hotel before going off to prospect a gold mine that may have some potential for profit.
Persimmon Bates is played by the legendary movie comedian Edgar Kennedy. After some complicated misunderstandings the British heiress goes back to England with her aunt convinced that the cowboy doesn't like her. Just after the girl heads back to England our cowboy discovers that a gold mining claim that he wants to prospect with his buddy Persimmon contains millions of dollars worth of gold.
Ahhh, but here's the rub. Remember Hadley, the fellow traveling with the young girl and her aunt? He turns out to be a world class con man, and he is not only after the hand of the young heiress, but he is also about to con the cowboy out of his gold mine by offering Persimmon a bunch of cash.
It looks like a royal mess for the cowboy and the heiress, and it doesn't seem like there is any way in the world that they will ever get together. It appears that the cowboy will not only lose the girl, but also his gold mine. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn and drizzle plenty of warm melted butter on it and enjoy the show.
