Julie, Julie . . . Julie!

In 1934 the Hays Office began censoring every movie made and shown in America, and didn't stop until the late 1960's. Every movie was screened for violence, sex and language, and every plot had to follow strict rules. Bad guys could never appear to 'win' - crime could never be successful, and any form of immorality was forbidden from the screen. Because of the Hays Office many motion pictures from that era are very predictable . . . you know from the very beginning of the story how it will end . . . because all stories must end the way the Hays Office dictates. Ahhhh, but before 1934 the story plot of motion pictures was in the hands of the authors, without any outside interference, and I positively guarantee you that you will never, ever, ever predict the way this story unfolds . . . just when you think you know what is coming next the story takes a wild left turn and you will once again be surprised. This amazing story could not have been told a few years later . . . the interaction between the main characters would have been sanitized to the point of making the story much less interesting and meaningful. The richness of the characters and the way they interact with each other makes for a fascinating hour that the best television soap operas wish they could achieve. Before you pop your white kernel popcorn with warm melted butter on it, let me tell you just a simple sentence about the plot . . . now understand, this is not a simple plot . . . the sentence that I give you is but the mere tip of the iceberg, with no clue to the rollercoaster of emotions that you will experience as you enter the lives of one large family and spy on their loves and fights and schemes and plans. Ready? . . . After his wife passes, Dad marries a beautiful French woman half his age who unknowingly falls in love with his son, and they all live . . . ever after . . . notice one word that you expected to see conspicuously missing from that sentence? Heh . . . lots of things that you expect to see as you watch this story will not be there, and a lot of things that you will never expect will jump out at you . . . be amazed at this story about old men who love young beauties . . . and young men who love young beauties . . . and young beauties who love . . .
