What's a Good Girl to Do?

After a jewel heist in a New England mansion the gang separates as the cops are after them. Danny and Honest John hide in a small town in the only place the cops won't be looking for them - the local courthouse. They stumble upon a court case where an orphan girl is in trouble and facing reform school, or the choice to marry a scoundrel boy, and when Danny sees that the girl is being railroaded by the courts he steps in and tries to help her get out of the little town, but gets hooked into marrying her before he knows what hits him. Danny gets her out of town and into New York, giving her a place to stay and some money to live on and advising her to get an annulment and forget about him. Mary, played by Marian Nixon, doesn't know that Danny is a jewel thief, and she does not get the annulment, having fallen in love with the man who saved her from her little New England town. This leads to that and young Mary gets a job as the personal secretary to District Attorney Matthew Gray, played by silent screen star Theodore von Eltz, in fact, the D.A. falls in love with Mary, and not knowing that she is secretly married to a jewel thief asks her to marry him as he runs for Governor of New York. Things get complicated when Mary and Danny finally meet again and Danny decides to go straight and make their marriage complete. Unfortunately the cops pick up Danny and the next scene we watch Danny being taken into the D.A.'s office to make his confession . . . . and the District Attorney's secretary . . . Mary . . . comes in to take the confession, and learns that her husband is part of a jewel thief gang. What is the orphan girl saved by the jewel thief going to do now? The whole movie has built to this point, and now the real action is about to begin, and the bullets will fly. The orphan girl who was saved from reform school by the jewel thief steps up and fights for her man, and when a gal like Mary fights for you, the guys had best look out! Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter on it and enjoy the show.
