21 Days to Live, 21 Days to Love . . .

Leslie Banks is prestigious lawyer Keith Durrant, soon to be appointed by the Lord Chief Justice as a new Judge at the Old Bailey. He has a younger brother Larry, played by Laurence Olivier, who is a world wanderer without any focus or goals in life other than to survive the day. Larry comes home from a trip abroad and meets the love of his life Wanda, played by Vivien Leigh. When they arrive at Wanda's apartment to fix a welcome home dinner they discover a man in her flat . . . her husband! It turns out that she married the man when she was destitute and near starvation, but the two quickly parted ways, and now the man is back to try to get money from Wanda, and maybe her boyfriend Larry. A terrific struggle ensues and the man falls backward onto the fireplace and is dead. In his panic Larry carries the dead man a few blocks away from Wanda's flat and props him up under a dark archway. Larry is very distraught and goes to his brother to confess to him and turn himself over to the law, but his brother knows that if Larry turns himself in he will never be selected as the new Magistrate, so he helps Larry destroy any evidence and advises Larry that it will just become one more unsolved crime in the big city of London Town. Alas, things are seldom that easy, and a minister turned drunken vagrant is accused of the crime and may hang for it. Keith, the next Magistrate, thinks that this will be just fine, as the man was no good to proper society anyway, but Larry could not live with himself if another man was hung for a crime that Larry committed. Keith promises to shower Larry with great wealth if he will only leave the country and begin life anew halfway around the world, where he will be out of sight and out of mind and in no danger of harming Keith's grand future as a Magistrate . . . But Larry and his girlfriend Wanda are agreed that if the vagrant is convicted, Larry will confess and turn himself in to save the vagrant's life . . . and now Larry and Wanda have 21 days until the final verdict . . . 21 days before Larry must turn himself over to the courts and probably go to the hangman's noose . . . 21 days for Larry and Wanda to cram 30 years of life together . . . 21 days to love, laugh and enjoy each other before they must part for good. Will the vagrant be convicted of the murder? If the vagrant is convicted of the murder, will Larry turn himself in or flee the country with Wanda? Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
