Civil War Outlaws Destroy Lawrence Kansas, Courtesy of Will Quantrill

Will Quantrill was a schoolteacher in Lawrence, Kansas that started one of the largest outlaw bands to ever roam the western territories. Quantrill’s Raiders used the fog of Civil War as a cover to loot and pillage Kansas, Missouri and surrounding areas. At the height of his rein of terror, Quantrill had four hundred outlaws in his group of men. Two of his outlaw band, Jesse and Frank James, formed their own outlaw gang after the Quantrill Raiders broke up.

His gravestones, there are three of them, claim that Quantrill was twenty-seven-years-old when he was shot and killed by a Union soldier. J.E. Duffy, a soldier in the Civil War Michigan Cavalry, would disagree with those gravestones. While visiting Quatsino Sound at the north edge of Vancouver Island, Canada, he saw the famous outlaw that he had battled on several occasions during the Civil War. The man on Vancouver Island confessed to being Quantrill, and the two men spent hours recalling their battles, with the man reciting details that only Quantrill could know.

This adventure blends fact and fancy about Will Quantrill. Walter Pidgeon is Will Cantrell, a school teacher in Lawrence County. John Wayne is a Texas cowboy visiting Lawrence, Kansas with his dentist buddy, and Roy Rogers is the son of the town banker, and brother of the beautiful Mary McCloud, played by Claire Trevor, who will be courted by both John Wayne and Walter Pidgeon. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
