Happy Hoppy and the Gold Bandits

My papa was a preacher, and he would have been mighty pleased if I had followed in his footsteps, but my life had a very different path to follow. From the time I left home at 18 until my mid 50's I was a restless traveler who was never satisfied for long with any path that I tried until I combined old movies and other media with the internet.

The last few years of my journey have been so abundantly filled with joy that I find myself using an old expression that my Dad used often . . . When friends greet me by asking how I am, I am apt to reply with a silly grin on my face that I am as happy as if I was in my right mind . . . If you want to see a happy man . . . just come and share a cup of coffee and a few minutes with me . . . Or watch William Boyd as Hopalong Cassidy.

I don't know much more about William Boyd than I read about or see in his movies, but I have decided that he was a very happy man during his motion picture days. I think that making movies was his happy passion, and he just couldn't help but display his joy during his performances.

Listen for the heart-felt laughs that he just cannot help but chortle out several times during this adventure . . . You can't help but notice them. Now, don't get me wrong . . . As Hopalong Cassidy he is tougher than nails on the outlaws . . . But even then with a face that shows no malice or anger or hatred.

I think that William Boyd was truly living an abundantly happy life as a motion picture actor.

In this adventure he and side-kick Lucky Jenkins are hired by the express company to go to a small mining town and try to find out who has been robbing the stage coach every time there is a gold shipment from the Colby mine. The first suspect is Colby himself . . . You see, he was an outlaw for many years, but claims to have gone straight and become a gold miner.

Every time his shipment is aboard the stage coach it gets robbed . . . Mighty strange . . . But there are other suspects around, and it will be up to Hopalong and side-kick Lucky Jenkins to bait a trap for the stage coach bandits and catch them red-handed . . . Or die trying . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
