The Christmas Killer

As our adventure opens a man and a woman are walking on the roof garden of a London Hotel and it is almost midnight on New Year's Eve . . . The man tells the woman that their meeting was no accident . . . When he heard that she was from Brighton, he took great interest in her, and she is to became his next victim. He explains to her that he is the Brighton Strangler . . . He strangled the Lord Mayor on Christmas Eve, and then the Chief Investigator . . . and now . . . It is New Year's Eve in London and his final victim from Brighton will never see the new year because he will strangle her before Big Ben strikes midnight. He pulls a length of rope from his coat pocket and strangles the girl and she falls silently to the ground . . . . Wow . . . And we are only two minutes into the story . . . Suddenly there is thunderous applause and we discover that we have been watching a play, called The Brighton Strangler, and it has all been just an evening's entertainment in London. The show has been playing in the London Theater for a long time and finally on December 23 the final performance is finished and the cast goes their separate ways. The leading man in the play is engaged to the author of the play, and she has gone to Canterbury where she will prepare for their wedding. John Loder plays the part of the leading man in the play, and he will follow his fiancé to Canterbury after the final performance on December 23. When the show is over he is sitting in his theater dressing room on the phone with his fiancé in Canterbury when the phone lines are suddenly interrupted by the operators and all calls are quickly disconnected. The sound of war planes overhead and wailing sirens tell us that World War II is upon us and London is being bombed. One of the bombs hits the theater and our leading man falls to the ground among the debris . . . . After the bombing is over our guy staggers to his feet. Dazed and injured he slowly walks out of the theater and after discovering a claim ticket in his pocket he heads for Victoria Station to claims the suitcase that is being held there, then wanders through the station in a daze, having obviously lost the memory of who he is . . . . Holding a hand to his head he struggles to remember . . . . Who is he? . . . Where is he going? . . . . The words of the play he has spoken so many hundreds of times in daily performances slowly roll around his muddled head . . . . Slowly . . . . in a state of confusion and mad thoughts whirling around in his head . . . . He will become The Brighton Strangler, and go on a killing spree in Brighton that will mimic his actions in the play . . . And no one in Brighton recognizes that the circumstances are eerily similar to a popular London play . . . And the killing continues . . . until New Year's Eve and a rooftop rendezvous with a girl in London . . . . How can this be happening? . . . The girl from Brighton that he lured to the London rooftop on New Year's Eve has no idea that she is next to die . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
