Death at Daybreak

Our adventure opens inside a London prison . . . . Eddie is half owner of a barber shop, and for extra money he has a job on the side . . . . Whenever there is a man sentenced to hang at dawn, someone needs to do the deed, and Eddie is the hangman. Eddie enters the prison office and we learn that this will be Eddie's last hanging before he gives it up. The prison warden calls him Eddie Mendover, but that is not his birth surname. He was born Eddie Tribe, but as a boy of thirteen his mother died, and he ran away from his father because his father beat his mother and him regularly. He hated his father so much that he changed his name to Mendover in an attempt to forget his father and his past. Now Eddie Mendover is walking down the prison hallway towards the cell that holds the man who was sentenced to hang at daybreak . . . His final job as hangman . . . . The cell door opens . . . The condemned man rises to his feet and stares in fear at Eddie and the prison officials . . . The condemned man speaks . . . . His eyes are wide with surprise and fear as he pleads with Eddie . . . . He pleads with Eddie to tell them who he is . . . Eddie's world stops . . . The prison officials and Eddie go to a private place and Eddie quietly tells them that he is not Eddie Mendover . . . . His real name is Tribe, . . . Eddie Tribe . . . The prison officials are startled beyond belief and they quietly demand that Eddie tells them his side of the affair, and Eddie begins . . . . It was a dark and stormy night in London town and Eddie was in his favorite pub enjoying a bite to eat . . . Then SHE walked in to get out of the storm . . . . Frankie is a very young and beautiful lass . . . Yes, there is a woman involved . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
