When Love is Great . . . But Blind . . .

One would never imagine that a great love story between a man and a woman would begin in a Roman Catholic Convent, but this one does. Lydia Frances Garth, played by Margaret Lockwood, is an office assistant to a doctor in London. She grew up in a wealthy home, but her father loved the gambling tables in France too much and the family wealth is gone and she is now a working girl. One day she meets wealthy Frenchman Paul de Vandiere, played by Paul Dupuis, and it is true love at first sight for both. Even though she resists at first, she is swept off her feet by the debonair wealthy Frenchman. Unfortunately, after their whirlwind romance she goes permanently and completely blind, and retreats to a convent with the sure knowledge that her blindness will keep her from the love of her life. As our story continues the Mother Superior kicks her out of the convent and challenges her to face the outside world . . . Upon returning to the doctor's office where she worked before she became blind she discovers that Paul is there . . . The love of her life . . . And Paul confesses afresh his undying love for Lydia, and the two are soon married and headed to Paul's home, the magnificent villa of the Vandiere family in the South of France with a large family and full complement of servants and staff. Upon their arrival at the villa everyone greets Lydia with such warmth, love and happiness and we are certain that we are in the midst of a great love story . . . But alas . . . underneath the love and warmth of Paul's family is a great evil . . . . Lydia has no eyesight but she can see the evil . . . Paul has perfect eyesight but he cannot see the evil . . . The love of Lydia's heart may be ripped from her . . . Indeed, Lydia's life itself is in grave danger . . . And no one but Lydia can see the danger . . . How ironic it becomes when the blind girl can see more clearly than everyone else around her . . . Will love survive? . . . . Will Lydia survive? . . . Can a great love survive when one is blind and the other will not see what is in the house of evil? . . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
