The British Dude Detectives and the Outlaw Rustlers
Jim Brent and his daughter Lucy run a ranch that is losing all of its cattle to a gang of mysterious rustlers. If they can’t find and stop the rustlers soon they won’t have a ranch to run. Jim Brent sends for help from the Bar 20 ranch and soon Hopalong Cassidy, California Carlson and Johnny Nelson are on their way to the Brent ranch. Instead of telling his men that he’s hired three cowboys from the Bar 20, Hoppy tells him to spread it around that he is hiring three private detectives from back East.
As our adventure opens we discover a band of outlaws preparing to stop the stagecoach. They intend on kidnapping the three detectives arriving on the stage and kill them. Unfortunately, when they stop the stagecoach they only find one wimpy salesman on the stage. It seems that the three detectives have hired a private coach and taken the shortcut to the Brent ranch.
We next discover that the top rustler is the foreman of the Brent ranch, and then the private coach hired by Hoppy and his pals arrives. Hoppy, California and Johnny are dressed up like British dandies, and they pretend that they cannot ride, shoot or rope, and our rustler’s decide that the three detectives will not be any threat to them.
We are tempted to laugh at their foolish antics, knowing that when the time comes they will outshoot and outfight all of the rustlers. Unfortunately, one of the henchmen discovers that they are not who they pretend to be, so they capture and tie up Hoppy and California, using them as bait to lure rancher Brent and Johnny into a trap that they may never get out of alive. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
