Fuzzy Acts Up

Some folk make a good living by creating what people want to buy . . . they raise cattle and sell them to an eager market . . . they raise farm crops that an eager market is quick to purchase . . . but then there is another kind of person. Once in a while we encounter a wealthy man who gets his money by taking everything he can from hard working people and giving back nothing. In this cowboy comedy adventure my favorite cowboy bad guy Charles King is Mort, the leading henchman for businessman Steve Kinney, played by Jack Ingram. Businessman Kinney is doing bad things to both the ranchers and the farmers and getting them to blame each other while he sits fat and happy in his office in town. Now, in most cowboy movies from the 1930's and 1940's there are plenty of shoot-outs, fist fights and dastardly deeds by the bad guys, but this one is very different. It is notable because much of the violence found in cowboy adventures has been replaced by the amazing physical comedy of Al 'Fuzzy' St. John. I was literally rolling on the floor with laughter when he entered a fist fight and took several uppercuts to the jaw that pulled his feet off the floor and sent him skyward with more effect than a cartoon would display. Tough guy hero Buster Crabbe breaks into outright belly-laughter more times than I counted throughout the saga. This one will not have you sitting on the edge of your seat with suspense and terror, and that is a good thing because if you were on the edge of your seat you would surely fall on the floor laughing at the outstanding physical humor of Fuzzy St. John. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with warm melted butter on it and enjoy the show.
