A Man with a Secret meets a Woman with a Secret

Army Corporal Marion Scott is trying to hitch-hike to a small town and make a new life for himself. He is a war hero that was released from World War Two before it was over because of his heroism. He spent much of the war listening to a buddy who didn't survive talk about his little home town. Marion has heard so much about this little town that he wants to make it his home town.

A gal drives along as he is trying to catch a ride and he causes her to have a flat tire, and they immediately dislike each other. They despise each other so much that we can tell in an instant that these two folk are meant for each other.

She won’t tell him who she is, and he won’t tell her who he is. Soon they are arrested and dumped into the small town jail - twice. We learn that the gal is the older daughter of the wealthiest family in town, and she is supposed to be married in two days to a prominent politician.

We still don't know who the man is. . . . Sure, we know he is a soldier released from the army because of war wounds, or so he says, but there is something very mysterious about this man. He is hiding something.

Soon we meet the whole Hammond family and the rich guy politician that means to make the gal an honest woman. But she already loves Marion, although she fights it with everything she has . . . well . . . almost everything.

The wind-up comes on the wedding day, when she will be married to the politician, and the cops have been called to arrest Marion as a deserter from the Army. You will laugh, cry and laugh some more at the wild way that these two people run towards and away from each other until they are together at last. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
