Jimmy and the War Dog

As our adventure opens young Jimmy Bailey and his buddies are at the railroad station waiting for the train to arrive. World War II is over and soldiers are returning home. Jimmy’s older sister Margie is also waiting for the train to come into town, because her boyfriend Joe is a Marine coming home after the war. As the train slows down the young boys begin playing their instruments to welcome home a special Marine soldier . . . . Danny Boy, a German Shepherd dog who has spent the last two years fighting alongside brave Marines on Iwo Jima. When the Marine War Dog is reunited with Jimmy the dog is cool to Jimmy, no longer the playful pup he was before the war. Marine soldier Joe Cameron tells Jimmy that Danny Boy still has memories of war in his head, but with love and caring from Jimmy he will be back to his old self very soon.

Unfortunately Jimmy lives next door to Grumpy Andrews . . . The Meanest Man in the World! Grumpy Andrews is convinced that Danny Boy can never be a friendly pet again after his war years and he is sure to bite and kill someone. Grumpy Andrews will do everything in his power to get rid of Danny Boy, and we soon find out what he will do. When a rancher walks by Grumpy Andrews and admires the handsome dog next door Grumpy Andrews helps the rancher steal Danny Boy and the rancher ties up the dog in his barn and beats the dog with a whip and refuses to feed him. Danny Boy is helpless and alone, and Jimmy is forlorn because his dog has disappeared and there is no way to find him. Grumpy Andrews is happy because the hero Marine war dog is gone forever. Will Jimmy ever see his beloved dog again? Will Danny Boy die in the rancher’s barn without food and wounded by the cruel whip of the rancher? Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
