The Range Busters Hold Up The Stage
Ray ‘Crash’ Corrigan (1902-1976) was a movie stunt man that became famous and earned a truckload of money in a series of 24 cowboy movies featuring the Three Mesquiteers. With his earnings from those movies he purchased a large tract of land in the Simi Hills and created a ranch and a western town, with trails through the hillsides. Along with country singer Dusty King and ventriloquist/magician Max Terhune he created the Range Busters . . . Three cowboys roaming the Western range in search of bad guys. Most of those movies, including this one, were filmed on his ranch. Corrigan also rented the ranch for other movies and later television shows that needed a Western or outdoors area to film in. He also created Corriganville, where tourists could come and watch cowboys shooting it out and falling off of rooftops in Wild West shows, with Max Terhune also entertaining with magic tricks, comedy and his dummy Elmer. In 1965 Corrigan sold the ranch to comedian Bob Hope, who built a suburban housing development he called Hopetown. This adventure begins with Range Buster Dusty King, and it appears that he is about to be hung from the limb of a tree by a handful of men, and it may be the end for one of our heroes . . . . But suddenly two riders appear in the distance and they are riding hard to get to the tree with the men preparing to string Dusty up. Sure enough, it is Crash Corrigan and Max Terhune riding to the rescue . . . . But wait . . . . Something is amiss . . . When Crash and Max get to the group, and Dusty King pleads with them to stop the hanging . . . The two Range Busters inform Dusty that he got himself into this mess and they are not going to get him out of it . . . . . Whoa, partners . . . . This doesn’t look good . . . . We watch as a man on horseback tosses a rope over a high tree limb, then ties it to his saddle, and slowly backs up, pulling the rope tight . . . . With Crash Corrigan and Max Terhune watching silently . . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
