Goils, Gangsters, Comics and Killers

So many good 'teaser' titles for this story . . . . 'The G-String Murders', the name of the book written by Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous burlesque queen . . . . or maybe 'The Phantom of the Old Opera House' . . . or maybe 'The Singing Stripper and her Mama' . . . . or 'The Princess from Toledo, Ohio' . . . . How about 'The Queen and the Comic?' . . . How about if I just tell you that this is one of the best 'whodunit' mystery murder stories that my old eyes have ever seen . . . . Not to mention the delicious eye-candy from the days of burlesque theater. The amazing Barbara Stanwyck plays the part of burlesque girl Dixie Daisy, caught in the middle of romance and murder. She just joined a burlesque show in an old opera house in New York City and is having a great time entertaining the standing room only crowds. One night during her performance the cops fill the back of the room preparing for a raid, and all the performers rush for the exits. Dixie runs to the basement looking for a place to hide when a pair of hands comes out from behind a curtain and begin strangling her . . . . She screams as the hands close in tight around her neck . . . . Suddenly a police woman rushes down the steps and Dixie drops to the floor as the strangler lets loose and disappears into the shadows. There is a killer in the old opera house, and Dixie may be the target . . . Or maybe not! Soon burlesque performer Lolita La Verne is found strangled . . . with her own G-string . . . Which disappears before the cops arrive . . . . Inspector Harrigan has his hands full as he questions everyone who might have killed Lolita, and some of the evidence points to Dixie . . . . This leads to that, and still without a murder suspect the show must go on . . . . Until the body of performer Princess Nirvena from Toledo, Ohio is found in a prop on stage during a show. Inspector Harrigan is still on the track of the killer, but it will take the cunning of Dixie and some good detective work from her comic boyfriend to trap the real killer . . . The only problem is that before Dixie can put all the pieces together, while sitting alone in the dressing room . . . . The killer will turn off the lights, lock the door and walk menacingly towards Dixie to finish what he started in the beginning . . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
