Blonde Dynamite in the Jungle

Maybe it was the Tarzan movies that my Dad and I would enjoy many Saturday afternoons on the local television station . . . or maybe it was that heart-stopping moment years later watching the huge round rock tumbling quickly after a fleeing Indiana Jones that did it, but whatever it was . . . I still enjoy a good jungle adventure of danger and death, and this is indeed a pretty good jungle adventure. Leif Erickson is adventurer Steve Blake, and when he isn't playing with the ladies he and his side-kick Hoppy, played by Frank Jenks, are willing to take on any adventure if the money is right. Our adventure opens with Blake busting into the office of a lawyer across the street from the police station. Blake asks the lawyer to defend him for killing another man, and the lawyer asks him who he killed and why. Blake explains that he hasn't killed the man yet, but when he walks out of the police station across the street he will kill him . . . and the lawyer can watch. The lawyer asks him what it is all about, and as Blake starts telling the story, we flash back to the story from the beginning. The owner of a diamond mine deep in the jungles of Africa has hired Blake and Hoppy to fly to Africa and search by air for the location of a tribe that is giving him a rough time. When ladies' man Blake gets to the diamond mine owners villa, he discovers that he knows the wife of the mine . . . they had a thing back in the day. Beautiful Connie Harper, played by Veda Ann Borg, lets Blake know that she will once again be his at the drop of a hat. Blake refuses to mix business with pleasure, and soon he and his buddy are in the air searching for the lost tribe. Engine trouble forces them to land in a jungle clearing, and guess what? . . . as soon as they land they are surrounded by spear-throwing natives who take them back to their village to be killed . . . and the leader of the natives is a young blonde savage who was rescued by the tribe many years ago as a baby. It turns out that her parents were partners with the diamond mine owner, but he killed them and almost killed the baby girl, but she was saved by the natives before she was killed. Once our adventurers discover that they are working for a skunk they try to find evidence that will put him behind bars for killing Meelah's parents. Of course, adventurer Blake falls hopelessly in love with Meelah, played by Gale Sherwood, and is more determined than ever to get the goods mine owner Harper, played by veteran actor Douglass Dumbrille. Unfortunately wealthy mine owner Harper is so well respected by all of the authorities that he will probably go free, and Blake will have to kill him as he leaves the police station. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
