The Lady Gangster and Her Playground
Young fellas, If you will take any advice from an old guy, take this advice: Never, ever, ever, toy with the affections of your girlfriend. Don't take her for granted, don't just date her with the intention of tossing her to the curb when the next pretty face comes along . . . . . If you do . . . . . You may be very, very sorry. Rita Adams, played by Joan Woodbury, is in love with a rich playboy and hopes to marry him and climb on the gravy train of a wealthy life, but he is only interested in having his fun with her before moving on. One night he is driving drunk and manages to kill a man walking along the road, and because his father is both wealthy and interested in becoming the Governor one day, they convince Rita that if she will take the fall for the murder they will pay for the best lawyer and get her off on probation, and then sonny will marry Rita and give her the life she wants. Rita agrees, not knowing that the father has paid the lawyer to make very sure that Rita goes to prison for a very long time so that they will be rid of her. Well now . . . . Rita is no dummy . . . . Rita discovers that her boyfriend dumped her like a hot rock and his daddy paid well to make sure she was convicted for his son's crime . . . . Thanks to one of her childhood friends who is now a gangster she has the evidence that she needs to get revenge on daddy who wants to be Governor. In a twisted, cunning, diabolical plot Rita not only gets revenge on daddy-dear, but also becomes the Queen of Crime, pulling the strings of the politicians and the gangsters . . . . Controlling the wanna-be Governor and the heads of the crime ring and orchestrating all of the crime in the city . . . . . All because her playboy boyfriend toyed with her affections and tossed her to the curb . . . . . Beware fellas . . . . . This could happen to YOU! . . . .
One of the young actors in this classic noir gangster story only had a small part, no really good close-up head shots, I could only snag one decent screen capture of his face, but then he wasn't really a big star, and only had a few minutes of screen time in this gangster show . . . . But he was a good actor and getting more experience every day. . . . So anyway . . . . After that movie was produced Paramount Studios signed him to a contract and the first movie they put him in was another gangster movie where he was cast as a hired killer along with a blonde actress named Veronica Lake. . . . That movie made both Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake famous, and Alan Ladd had plenty of close-up movie shots from then on. That movie made Alan Ladd so very popular that this movie, originally named 'Paper Bullets' was re-named 'Gangs, Inc.' with Alan Ladd getting top billing. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
