Love Me Forever? . . . Prove it . . . Kill My Wealthy Husband!

Hugh Beaumont is most famous as Ward Cleaver in the 1950’s situation comedy “Leave it to Beaver”. In this noir murder adventure, he is a young newspaper reporter who falls for a devilish dame, a vicious villainous vamp who uses her men like a weeping widow uses Kleenex. Both of these actors are legendary for their many movie performances, but there is a motion picture super-star in this story, and you probably don’t know either his name or his face.

Budd Buster first acted in a 1933 talkie murder mystery, and before he last stood in front of a motion picture camera he had appeared in over three hundred movies. Hugh Beaumont only managed a hundred and forty-one movies, and bad girl Ann Savage acted in forty-three motion pictures.

In the twelve months of 1937 Budd Buster appeared in a record-setting thirty-two motion pictures, almost three movies every month. As far as I can tell he was never the star of a story, and he rarely got a close-up shot, but in this story his character is important enough that the director gave him two separate scenes with a close-up look at the prolific actor’s face.

Beautiful bad girl Ann Savage convinces na├»ve newspaper reporter Hugh Beaumont to help her kill her old and wealthy husband so they can live together in a little love-nest for the rest of their days. Budd Buster is the caretaker at the wealthy man’s mountain retreat, and this little fellow will be the key to the story, in his very unique way. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
