I Double-Dog Dare You Not to Laugh!
Edgar Kennedy is at it again. He acted in comedies from the earliest silent pictures in 1911 until his death in 1948. His familiar slap-stick physical comedy has been imitated by many, but few carry it off as well as Edgar. In this 16 minute comedy short he and his wife Sally and his brother-in-law Jack are driving to Gold Nugget, Nevada where Edgar has purchased the town's only restaurant with hopes of getting rich from selling meals to the towns folk. When they reach the town they discover that it is a ghost town, with only two current inhabitants - outlaws. Edgar and the outlaws play hide-and-seek for a hilarious few minutes until the outlaws discover that Edgar is not the Sheriff, and isn't even armed. When the two desperados discover that Edgar has an automobile they force him at gunpoint to drive them to a nearby town. Once in the car, Sally spots the bad guys in the back seat of the convertible and quickly lasso's them and pulls them out of the car and ties them up. Of course Edgar is oblivious to this and drives away quickly. It is a simple plot, with comedy gags that you have probably seen many times in other comedies, but Edgar is a master at looking the part of the befuddled any-man - don't we all know someone just like him? Pop a small bowl of white kernel popcorn with a bit of warm melted butter drizzled onto it and enjoy the show!
