Hollywood at War on the Farm

First the serious stuff: It is 1943 and America is fully engaged in two major wars . . . one in the Pacific against Japan and the other in Europe against the Nazi scourge. More American boys have gone to war that for the first time in the history of the world the women left behind must leave their homes to fill the factory jobs that produce the war materials needed. But Rosie the Riveter is not the only symbol of female efforts in this great world war . . . every army moves on its stomach, and all of the farm boys needed to harvest the food that will keep the nation and the soldiers going is ready for harvest, but there are no farm hands to do the job. Enter Hollywood and the musicians, singers, comedians and yes, even the press agents, who come to the rescue in this motion picture. Scattered through this musical comedy are several references and speeches and songs that remind us that the war must be won, and we all need to do things that we never needed to do before in order to guarantee a swift victory. OK . . . enough of the serious stuff . . . now the fun stuff! There is a love triangle, a truck load of college girls, some mighty fine singing and dancing, and three very good celebrity impersonators that keep the story rolling along to its happily ever after ending. There are also enough corny jokes to keep every twelve year old in stitches . . . and even a few old farts like me who still have that twelve year old inside them. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with lots of warm melted butter on it, put your brain in neutral and sit back, relax, and enjoy the show . . . and don't be afraid to laugh out loud when you are surprised by a corn-ball joke flying off the screen.
