The Killer of Archer Street

An American named Link Hunter is living in England and managing a business for the American company he works for. He has been seeing a young British girl for some time, and all is well, but then he meets a knockout girl who sweeps him off his feet. He dumps his girlfriend and gets married to the new girl. Before the wedding he gets a big life insurance policy, and off they go to honeymoon in Paris. Meanwhile, back home, a young woman's body is found wrapped in a floor carpet . . . . The floor carpet from the home of Link Hunter . . . And the dead woman is the girlfriend that Link Hunter tossed to the curb before he married the knockout girl who he is honeymooning with in Paris . . . . American Link Hunter is the only man that was ever involved with the dead girl, and it looks like he will hang for killing her . . . . There is no one else in the dead girl's life but American Link Hunter . . . Soon he is waiting in prison for his day of hanging . . . . Remember the big life insurance policy that he purchased just before he got married? That will turn out to be his salvation . . . . You see . . . . If Link Hunter is hanged, the insurance company is on the hook for a big payout, but if the insurance company can hire a private detective to clear Link of the murder charge they can save a big chunk of money. Private Eye Jeff Howard, played by Clifford Evans, looks in vain for any other suspect . . . The private eye will even hire a local assistant, a neighborhood investigator Mel Ferris, played by Dermot Walsh. Together the two private investigators search for anything that might lead to another person, but there is no one else . . . No one had the motive, opportunity or ability to commit the crime except Link Hunter . . . . He will soon be hanged for a murder that he didn't commit, and the killer will go free . . . . Did I mention that as the story opens an old spinster leaves her apartment on Archer Street and notices that a car is following her on the bus? Did I mention that the dead girl also lived on Archer Street? Did I mention that there will be more murders before the story ends? I cannot reveal much more, because the actual killer is revealed to us all about half way through, and after we recover from the shock it will be a twisted trail of deceit and murder that must be untangled if Link Hunter is to miss his appointment with the hangman. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
