The Gangster, the Yank, and the Young Boy

London is abuzz with the big gangster trials at the Old Bailey, and newspaper reporters are stumbling over each other to get the story to their newspapers . . . . Except for one reporter who is always terribly thirsty. Tom Buchan, a Yank reporter played by Bonar Colleano, doesn't like sobriety much, but he sure can write a story when he feels like it. . . . The only thing is he doesn't feel like it very often. When the big crime boss, Italian gangster Rossini, played by Sidney James, is about to be nabbed by the coppers the drunk Yank gets an idea. Instead of waiting around like all the other reporters for the next story, reporter Buchan makes news. After watching the court proceedings he can easily predict what the cops will do next, so he writes a story and sends it to the editor . . . . And then he goes out and makes the story come true. He calls Italian gangster Rossini and warns him that Scotland Yard is on the way to arrest him and he should go into hiding as soon as possible. Gangster Rossini is waiting for one last deal that will provide enough loot to get away to Italy where he will be safe from Scotland Yard. His three henchmen promise to give him the loot as soon as the deal is finished, and Rossini disappears into the night only minutes before a car from Scotland Yard pulls up to his home to arrest him. After Rossini disappears, the Yank reporter figures that he will next find the gangster in hiding and become his buddy and get the story of his life and create a series of newspaper articles that will rock London and all of England. Reporter Buchan finds Rossini hiding in an abandoned night club, and soon a little neighborhood boy enters the empty building with a toy gun playing cops and robbers. The little boy Joey, played by Andrew Ray, becomes their link to the outside world, bringing them food and taking messages out to Rossini's girlfriend and the reporter's editor. Everyone will get what they want if all goes well . . . Rossini will get his loot and be able to get out of the country . . . . Reporter Buchan will get the story of the century . . . and the little lad will have an adventure that will give him fond memories the rest of his life . . . The Italian gangster, the Yank reporter, and the little neighborhood boy . . . . Long ago Benjamin Franklin said that three may keep a secret . . . . only if two of them are dead . . . . As in just about every gangster movie ever produced, things will not go as planned . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
