Yanks Invade Britain . . . . Comedy Breaks Out

Many of entertainment's greatest comedy actors came from Britain, and this movie showcases several great actors before they were stars. Of course there are few people in the world who do not recognize and love Peter Sellers, the Pink Panther. In this British yarn he is a lowly private serving in the mess. In England Sidney James and Tony Hancock were a famous comedy team on radio and later television, including the famous 'Hancock's Half Hour,' and in this story Sid James plays the part of the movie director who is invading a British Army base with the intent of making a science fiction movie about Martians attacking the Army base. Tony Hancock is 'introduced' in this movie and plays the part of the base band leader, and in the end it is Hancock and his band that saves the day when a visiting General discovers the mayhem that the movie studio has created on base. Another famous acting star in this movie is the eminent Donald Pleasance, playing the part of Corporal Martin. I have to admit that I could not find him in the movie to grab a screen shot, I'm not sure how big his part was, but I didn't recognize him . . . With many more than 200 credits to his name, this was his fourth movie appearance, and I'd love to add a screen shot of him from this story . . . . If you can point him out to me I'd appreciate it . . . . . UPDATE: Fan John Parthun from Texas not only found the very young Donald Pleasence but gave me the exact spot in the movie to show him to me, and sure enough, there he was bringing the sci-fi equipment into the gymnasium! (screen shots below) Anyway . . . . There are plenty of familiar faces in this movie, but let's get on to the plot. An American motion picture company rides into the Army Base with the unique American attitude that they can bribe, connive, flatter, and convince anyone in the world to allow them to do whatever they wish. Sid James is the American director who wants to make a 'B' movie about Martians attacking a British Army base, and with the help of some of his bevy of beauties and a few pounds to Peter Sellers he gets his way . . . . Until General Sir Cuthbert Grahame-Foxe arrives for a surprise inspection. It doesn't look good for Colonal Bellamy, played by Raymond Huntley, until his daughter enlists the aid of Tony Hancock and the Army Band to save the day. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
