When it Rains in Paris . . .

I can still hear my mother's voice from when I was a very young boy . . . . "Jimmy, Your hair is still wet . . . If you go outside now you will catch your death of cold." Many years ago when life seemed to be simpler, there were no viruses, no germs spread by sneezing or coughing, only the cold rain that made one ill. Twice in this drama Elizabeth Taylor walks in the Paris rain and both times she ends up in hospital with flu that endangers her life . . . . . Ahhh . . . . . The simpler days . . . . . Sometimes ignorance can truly seem blissful . . . . . As our romantic drama begins we meet Van Johnson, one of the handsomest leading men of the 1954 motion picture industry. We are in the waning days of World War II and he is a reporter for the Stars and Stripes military newspaper in Paris. Next we meet two of the most beautiful actresses of 1954, Elizabeth Taylor and Donna Reed . . . . They are sisters and both in love with Van Johnson. Donna Reed is stable and reliable and would make the best wife and mother any man could envision, while Elizabeth Taylor is the wild child searching for fun, love and excitement every moment . . . . Of course Van Johnson chooses Elizabeth Taylor to woo and wed. They are very much in love, but World War II has changed the world forevermore, and people, relationships and morals have been changed by the war. While Van Johnson and Elizabeth Taylor truly love each other, sometimes life gets in the way of that love, and they forget the troubled times that brought them together in the first place. Van Johnson is beguiled by Eva Gabor, long before she learned to love the Green Acres of farm life, and Elizabeth Taylor meets a very handsome and young Roger Moore, long before he learns to drink martini's shaken, and not stirred. Together, with Walter Pidgeon playing the part of the two sister's father, life happens in Paris . . . . Not always happy . . . . Not always sad . . . . but always filled with the emotions of love, jealousy and fears that fuel most of us even today . . . . This is an amazing look at life, love and loss in 1954 Paris with some of the most beautiful and talented actors of the 1954 movie world . . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
