The Kidnap Caper

Doctor Manning married a wealthy society lady in London and his medical practice consisted mostly of wealthy ladies about town. One night he is awakened in the middle of the night by a phone call by a man pleading for a visit from the doctor for his ill wife. The doctor climbs out of bed and gets dressed and heads off into the early morning darkness to treat the unknown patient. This is the last we will see of Doctor Manning, and his wife Annette, played by Greta Gynt, enlists the aid of an American private eye who then enlists the aid of Scotland Yard Inspector Brown. They decide not to let the world know that the doctor is missing, but a snoopy reporter gets wind of the doctor's disappearance and soon the newspapers of London are talking about the kidnapping of the doctor. Sure enough, once the public thinks that the doctor has been kidnapped, witnesses with differing advice come out of the woodwork like ants on a cube of sugar. The real bad-guy sends notes with a curious mark of a circle inside a triangle, and asks for five thousand pounds for the safe return of her husband. Despite the warning to keep the cops away, Scotland Yard has set up an investigation base in her mansion with cops all over the place. Well, the ransom money is delivered and the doctor does not return . . . . Now what to do? Mrs. Manning decides to kick the cops out of her mansion and handle the affair alone, only depending on her lawyer to help her get the next batch of money that the kidnapper is asking for. Unfortunately, even though the cops are out of sight, her attempt to deliver the next batch of ransom money fails because of snoopy neighbors at the drop site. The cops are tailing her and listening to her phone conversations, but they are still in the dark about the motive or the identity of the kidnapper. Finally a street walker who saw the kidnapping from a distance tells the snoopy reporter that she could easily identify the man, and after her picture and story are plastered all over the front page of the newspaper . . . . She is strangled by the unknown villain, and the cops, the doctor's wife, and we viewers are still in the dark. Will the doctor's wife be able to connect with the kidnapper and get her husband back? Will the doctor's wife become the next victim of the madman if she cannot keep the cops away? Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
