Beatniks meet Rock 'n Roll

Eddy Cole is the leader of a gang of hip, anti-culture smart-alek small time crime gang who has a voice like Sinatra. One day in the local diner owned by his girlfriend's mother he is singing to the music of the juke box while a Los Angeles talent agent is on the pay phone nearby. The talent agent thinks that Eddy has a voice that might catch on with the teenage rock and roll crowd and offers him the chance to sing on a television show, and that might lead to big things. Unfortunately Eddy takes his girlfriend and three beatnik buddies with him and they manage to cause all kinds of trouble for Eddy as they thumb their noses at everyone they meet and bully their way around town. Eddy's talent agent has a blonde secretary that Eddy immediately falls for, to the chagrin of his girlfriend Iris, and Eddy tries to balance his new love for Helen without really dumping Iris, who loves Eddy and doesn't know how to handle his entrance into a new world of music and recording. This leads to that and soon thanks to Mooney, the wild beatnik played by Peter Breck, kills a fellow with a small bar-restaurant because he wouldn't serve them booze and wanted them to leave because of their unruly behavior. This is a definite turning point in the story . . . petty thieves might be forgiven if they turn their lives around, but this just might put the final nail in Eddy's dreams of fame and fortune. Eddy is played by Tony Travis, whose real name is Travis Kleefeld. As I write this he is 88 years young and living in Rancho Mirage, CA. In addition to this movie Tony acted in several television shows between 1956 and 1961, but then disappeared from both the big and little screen. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
