For Love and Money

Don't you just love a good ghost story . . . especially one revolving around murder . . . betrayal . . . seances . . . . illicit love . . . and a fortune of money safely tucked away in a large safe? Filmed in Italy this ghost story starts with a seance in the large house and the house is given a curse of death. We then meet the main characters of the horror flick, including the cripple doctor Hichcock, his lovely wife Margaret and the doctor's assistant and the wife's lover, Dr. Livingstone . . . . yup, Doctor Livingstone . . . that Italian sense of humor! Anyway, Livingstone is busy making love to the wife and feeding small amounts of poison to her husband in an effort to cure his paralysis when Barbara decides that Charles should give her husband an overdose of the poison so that he dies, leaving his wealth to them to enjoy as they make love to each other. After the deed is done and the funeral is over the fun begins. When everyone is gathered for the reading of the last will and testament they discover that the key to the safe containing all of the dead doctor's wealth is missing. Later Margaret and her lover learn that the good doctor put the key in his coat pocket . . . the coat that he was buried in. Livingstone and Margaret retrieve the key and just as they are about to open the safe the housekeeper approaches and Barbara leaves Livingstone alone to run after the housekeeper to make sure that the housekeeper doesn't interrupt them as they try to open the safe and grab the wealth. When Barbara gets back to the library her lover Livingstone informs her that the safe is empty of the wealth that should have been there . . . . hmmm . . . do we believe him or did he empty the safe before the widow Barbara returned? I've always been the suspicious type, but we shall see. Soon very strange events begin to happen in this house of death, and it appears that the dead doctor may have returned from the grave. Now, I'm thinking that the 'dead' doctor conspired with the housekeeper to fein death and spook the wife and her lover . . . or maybe the lover Charles Livingston grabbed the loot from the safe and is now haunting Barbara to drive her insane so that he can have all of the wealth . . . or maybe the dead doctor has really returned from the dead to haunt his house forever and everyone inside it . . . . or maybe the 'dead' doctor and his assistant Livingstone are playing a cruel trick on Barbara . . . or maybe the local priest that we don't suspect of anything will turn out to be the evil one that we would never suspect . . . or maybe you should just pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter on it and find out for yourself!
