Starman and His Magic Wrist Watch

As I write this, some of my friends are enjoying the first wrist watch/computer/phone device that connects to their iPhone and supposedly does miraculous things . . . . Including telling the time. Ho-hum . . . . If you want to talks wrist watches let's talk about Dick Tracy's wrist watch walkie-talkie from the 1940's, or better yet the amazing 1962 wrist watch of Starman, the super hero from the planet Emerald who has come to Earth to save the planet from the evil Superior spacemen who will soon destroy the planet. Starman wears a wrist watch that can do three things . . . . It enables Starman to fly through space without a rocket ship and without the need for any space suit . . . . It is 1962, so of course it must be able to detect atomic bomb radioactivity, and it also allows Starman to speak and understand every language he encounters . . . . . Take THAT, fancy phone-watch! On May 25, 1961 President John F. Kennedy spoke before a joint session of Congress and declared that the U.S. would send a man to the moon within ten years, and the race to space was begun. No country made more imaginative movies about outer space in the next few years than Japan, and every youngster in the 1960's can probably remember watching these movies on a Saturday afternoon on their snowy black and white television set. This first adventure of the super hero Starman includes the young teenage daughter of a scientist who has created an engine for a space ship, and her younger brother. It will be the two young children who help Starman defeat the dreaded Superiors as they begin to destroy the Earth. Gather the kids and grandkids, or just channel the youngster inside you, then pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
