Mama Mia . . . The British are Coming
If you are a fan of old movies you are very familiar with the U.S. and British tales of bravery and death during World War II, and you may be familiar with the movie about Field Marshal Rommel vs. General Montgomery in the sands of Northern Africa, but you have probably never seen a movie like this one. Produced in Italy this story of battle in the desert sands of North Africa chronicles the adventures of Italian troops during the second battle of El Alamein. The British controlled El Alamein and the approaches to the Suez, and they held off the German and Italian forces trying to break through to the Suez. After the first battle of El Alamein that ended in a stand-off General Montgomery was sent to the British side to replace the former commander, and Field Marshal Rommel was in charge of the German forces. Our story begins after the first battle and into the second battle of El Alamein. The brave Italian fighters were used by the Germans as cannon fodder during the decisive battle - ordered into a suicide mission to hold of the advancing British forces while the German troops retreated to safer ground. With very little equipment and supplies the brave Italian soldiers outwitted the British and during a blistering tank attack by General Montgomery managed to destroy many British tanks with their courage and some simple explosives, with the Italian leaders dying bravely for their cause. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter on it and enjoy the show.
