Cosmic Rays Mutate a Man into the Manster

It has long been a wise saying . . . two heads are better than one . . . but what if both heads are on the same body? In post World War II Japan some of the finest science fiction was written and filmed, and this is one of the best, combining classic horror concepts from the 1930's and 1940's with the science and technology of the 1960's. I mean . . . just hearing the eerie sound of that machine that puts out a whistling howl gives me shivers to this day. American newspaper reporter Larry Stanford is about to return to the States after covering one more story . . . a story about a Japanese scientist that is experimenting with evolution caused by cosmic rays and secret chemicals. The scientist doesn't waste any time after meeting the reporter and quickly gives him a drink that will turn him into a two-headed manster. On the way to becoming a new being our manster changes personalities and he turns into a woman chasing wolf, pardon the pun and apologies to the Wolf Man, before an eye grows out of his shoulder, and then a complete second head grows next to his first head. The tension builds as people start dying at the hands of an unknown killer, and the reporter starts becoming more and more demented in his actions. Now, with murdered victims piling up the scientist regrets his experiments and will try to reverse the evolution if only he can find the Manster and give him an injection that might split him apart into two men - the good one and the bad one. Heh, maybe if he is successful one can stay with the wife and one can stay with the new Japanese girlfriend? Naw, it could never be that easy, could it. Or maybe the demented one could stay with the deformed monster gal held in the basement prison of the mad scientist. Sheesh, it's been so long since I've watched 1960's sci-fi that I cannot predict how the horror will end. I guess I'll just keep munching my white kernel popcorn with warm melted butter on it and enjoy the rest of the show.
