Three Brothers and the Princess
In the 1930’s Hollywood churned out more cowboy western adventures than Carter had little liver pills, and in the 1960’s Italian motion picture producers created nearly as many costume stories of ancient times commonly known as ‘Sword and Sandal’ stories. Most of the stories were filled with muscular bare-chested men fighting for something or other, and there were usually a couple of well-endowed beautiful women who could provide the inspiration for the fellows to fight on. This adventure was set in Biblical times and concerns the three sons of the High Priest of Jerusalem. As the story opens we meet Simon, a blacksmith, and his brother Judas. We discover that the city is about to be taken over by Roman-style invaders who will insist that the people of Jerusalem worship their god Jupiter. Well, of course this doesn’t sit well with the people of Jerusalem, but they do not have enough fighting men to stand up to the invaders, so the young men all leave town to organize and figure out what to do. The battle for Jerusalem will take many twists and turns, and the three Maccabean sons will each take a part in the victory. Simon the middle son is a peace loving fellow who will fight if necessary, but seek peace first. Judas the oldest son is a fighter, ready to raise his sword to the enemy at any time. Youngest son Jonathan will try to make peace with the enemy after Judas is killed in battle, but he will also perish at the hands of the treacherous enemy. In the end it will be up to Simon, the peace loving blacksmith, and the beautiful gal who loves him . . . Who also happens to be a princess from the enemy lands . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
