Raquel Welch Gets Her Groove On

In 1965 I was 14 years old and papa was a preacher in Meadville, Pennsylvania. It would be another year before we moved to Shanksville, and I was too young and sheltered to be a part of the 1965 beach generation, but I did listen to the Righteous Brothers on my little crystal radio that I built. I always had a passion for early media . . . telegraph, radio, and early television. I saved my earnings from part time jobs and purchased a crystal radio kit to build. I had a tiny earphone attached to it and I put the crystal set at the top of my bed, with the earphone stretching to my pillow so that I could listen to the local radio station as I went to sleep each night. I don't remember hearing the song that they performed in this movie, but who could forget, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling"? I can also remember Gary Lewis and the Playboys and their music from the 1960's. While for me watching the older movies is an exciting peek into the days before I was born, this movie is like going back to my teen years. I've never seen an old classic movie with a cast member listed as a 'Go-Go Boy' or as 'the girl in the pink polka-dot bikini' . . . But it all made perfect sense as I went back to my teen years. What a hoot! If you lived in those days, or just wish you did, pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with lots of warm melted butter on it and visit the Lake Arrowhead Dance Pavilion in 1965 . . . . it was A Swingin' Summer.
