Radioactive Drug Smuggling Bandits

So . . . if you think you know about the major movie stars from the 1960s era, picture this: A nearly naked Angie Dickinson holds a pistol on the eminent E.G. Marshall and tells police that she has captured a cheap peeping Tom . . . E.G. Marshall! . . . They are in this movie along with Yul Bynner, Rita Hayworth, Trevor Howard, Omar Sharif, and more world-wide movie stars appearing in one story than I ever recall. Okay, now more items that boggle the mind . . . We are in the swinging 1960's with war in Viet Nam, flower power hippies seeking sex, drugs and rock 'n roll . . . and we are going on a drug-busting journey to . . . the deserts of Iran . . . honest . . . Before our story begins we hear an opening monologue telling us about the lovely red poppy flower, and the scourge of evil that it brings to drug addicts via opium, heroin and cocaine. She explains that the United Nations is declaring war on drugs and this is a story of that war. In the first scene we watch a United Nations agent arrange to buy a crop from a tribal leader before the gangsters can buy it. Of course, the tribal leader will try to hijack the shipment back from the U.N. folk before they can get out of the desert so they can sell it again to the gangsters, but as the tribesmen attack the convoy of drugs the U.N. men blow up the crop before they are captured and killed. Next the United Nations comes up with a dilly of an idea . . . Let's buy another shipment of opium and lace it with radioactive metals so that they can follow the opium out of Iran and discover where and who the gangsters are. Of course, with their modern Geiger counters they will be able to follow the crop from Iranian poppy fields . . . what could go wrong? . . . . What could be worse than a huge shipment of opium headed for a drug-thirsty world? . . . Maybe they lose the trail and a huge shipment of radioactive opium is headed for the world . . . . Yup, the smart United Nations agents lose the trail and now must travel the earth in search of radioactive drugs. Now who could put together such a star-studded cast in 1966 to film a drug smuggling adventure and donate it to the world as a public service? The United Nations, with funding by Xerox and others! No matter what your thoughts on the United Nations and what their mission should be, this is a pretty good crime thriller with many of the 1966 movie stars of the world . . . Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the chase.
