"You don't have a chance in Hell"
In 1970, before leaving for the Emmy television awards, the young actor sat at a desk and started writing something on a small piece of paper. "What are you doing?" his wife asked as she saw this.
"Puting on paper what I might say in case I should win the Emmy that I have been nominated for," he replied.
"What for," she replied, "You don't have a chance in Hell." He silently agreed and put down his pen.
But Thirty year old James Brolin did win the Emmy for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Drama as Dr. Steven Kiley, young assistant to Marcus Welby, played by Robert Young, who also won an Emmy award that evening. Three years earlier young James Brolin played the lead in an independent motion picture filmed in Cape Town South Africa . . . . probably the only film appearance that he was ever in that is now in public domain. In this spy thriller he is a pick-pocket who unknowingly gets a top secret strip of micro-film from a young girl on a bus when he steals her wallet. The young girl is the legendary actress Jacqueline Bisset, who plays the part of a girl who is innocently holding the film for her boyfriend, who, unknown to her, is a Commie spy. The amazing Claire Trevor takes a character actor part as the old lady who knows all the criminals around town and becomes integral to the story as the South Africa Police and the Commie spies search for the strip of micro-film held by pick-pocket Skip McCoy. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with warm melted butter on it and enjoy the show.
