The Devil Has Many Faces . . .

There is a small and isolated village in Greece that is home to the castle of Baron Corofax and nearby the ancient ruins of a pagan temple. As our thriller opens we watch as a young man and woman on holiday are killed in a pagan ritual under the ruins of the temple. We then meet Father Roche, priest of a nearby town, played by Donald Pleasence. The priest is surprised by the visit of a young girl and two fellows who are visiting for the summer to do some archeological digging in the area. The priest cautions them against visiting the nearby ruins because people visiting the ruins have been disappearing without reason. Of course our three young folk believe, like most youngsters, that they are invincible and can master any challenge so off they go to explore the ruins of the ancient temple . . . and are trapped in the chambers below the earth in the clutches of the evil Baron Corofax, played by Peter Cushing, who is the servant of the stone minotaur with fire breathing nostrils. When the three archaeologists disappear the priest calls a private detective that grew up in his village and is now in New York City. As the priest waits for the arrival of the detective the girlfriend of one of the missing archeologists arrives to be with her boyfriend, but he is now one of the missing. Together the priest, the private detective from New York and the blonde girl-friend go in search of the devil that has captured anyone wandering into the demonic village. The fire-breathing Minotaur orders the death of the priest, who is the only person capable of destroying the devil creature. The battle is on between good and evil and the fight will not be easy or sure. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the scary, scary show.
