Do the Crime, Serve the Time, then Spend the Fortune
Jimmy and Ruth are very much in love. They both went to college expecting to live the good life after graduation, but something happened to crush their dreams. The world entered the Great Depression, and the opportunities for young folk, indeed all folk, are slim and none. Instead of being a leader of industry, Jimmy is a lowly bank clerk, and Ruth can’t live that pampered life that she expected.
Their visions of living the American Dream seem hopeless, . . . . Unless they are smart enough to change their future. Fortunately, Jimmy has a winning idea. It seems that one of their school chums stole a bundle of money, served a few years in prison, then got out and lived large on the money that he cleverly hid before going to prison.
Jimmy and Ruth plan everything down to the last detail. They will steal a fortune from the bank that Jimmy works in, then cleverly hide the money where no one will ever find it. They will confess, serve their jail time, and when they get out they will be able to live the rest of their lives in the luxury that they imagine they deserve. They are smarter than everyone around them and they will never need to worry about money again. . . . Nothing could go wrong, right? Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
