One Girl, Two Guys . . . and One Gun

George Raft was born in 1901 in the meanest, toughest neighborhood in the world . . . Hell's Kitchen New York City. He learned to be tough and later in Hollywood it was probably very easy to act tough . . . Like all of the folk he grew up around.

In Hollywood, he quickly became famous for his portrayal of gangsters. Unfortunately rumors of his friendship with some of the real-life gangsters from his neighborhood and some of the most famous mobsters of his day probably hurt his career.

In 1966 he wanted to visit England but was not given a visa because of his mob connections. He didn't seem to have great luck at picking the movies he was in also. He was offered the lead in The Maltese Falcon and Casablanca but turned them down, and a fellow named Humphrey Bogart got the parts instead.

In this story, he is small-town boy Kenny who grew up loving Mary, played by Ava Gardner. Now he is a middle-aged man without a job who shares his anger at life with everyone around him. As the story opens Mary comes back to town wanting to settle down to the simple small-town life and wants to do it with Kenny. Kenny's anger at life and his lack of direction and purpose will not only keep them apart, but it will drive Mary into the arms of suave businessman Lew Lentz, played by Tom Conway. Two determined men are chasing one beautiful girl, and as the boys fight it out, the beautiful bride is waiting at the church. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show.
